Jakrem Hot Spring is in South West Khasi Hills districts and about 9 Km from Mawkyrwat which is the district’s headquarters. The journey from Shillong to Jakrem is about 64 km. It is one of Meghalaya’s upcoming tourist places. The spring water that flows in Jakrem contains sulfur which is believed to contain medicinal properties for various ailments. The authorities concerned are making all-out efforts to develop this obscure place into a tourist health resort.
The way to the hot spring is a series of steps that lead down to stream that is connected to a bridge. Unlike hot springs found elsewhere the hot water spring in Jakrem are small and few. The hot water is connected to a set of bathrooms that are designated for men and women. The bathing compartment where the hot water flows attract a lot of visitors. Some part of the spring water is connected to a swimming pool for those interested to spend a relaxing time and soaking the naturally hot water.
In winter Jakrem turns in to a favorite picnic spot for the locals. It is advisable to carry food and refreshments for the long journey.
